So why not see Cape Town from a different viewpoint - enjoy its wonderful attractions while at the same time giving something back and getting to know a side of the city that is denied to the conventional traveler.

Join our group in August and work as a volunteer at Kirstenbosch, Cape Town’s world-renowned botanical gardens. Projects range from working in the gardens themselves to greening and farming projects in the townships that fall under the umbrella of Kirstenbosch and its staff.

At the same time we make the most of all the fun things - Table Mountain, Cape Point (below left), the penguin colony at Boulders (below right), the V&A waterfront development at Cape Town harbour and, needless to say...

Whether it’s a wine estate, a restaurant or a hotel, we identify venues off the guidebook radar, because we know the people who come on a holiday like this are looking for something out of the ordinary.

And one other bonus? Though the exchange rate has fallen a little, is it nowhere near as dramatic as the fall of the Pound or Euro to the Dollar.

The holiday is for 14 days between 26th August and 9th September but you can extend your stay if you wish to explore other parts of the Cape or South Africa or even neighbouring countries. The quoted cost of the holiday includes the following:
  • Airfare from London to Cape Town via Amsterdam
  • B&B for the duration in a four star boutique hotel in the centre of town;
  • all transport to and from the airport, Kirstenbosch projects, excursions and garden visits;
  • entry fees to all listed venues;
  • insurance cover
As part of the holiday, we also organise visits to see the work of landscape architects and garden designers. With the World Cup looming many grand landscaping projects have been undertaken in the city. (Below: the master planner of the new Green Point stadium surrounds last year showed us the innovative work he is doing turning a derelict area into a people’s park.)
